Time trialling is an ideal introduction to competitive cycling. It’s just you, your bike, and the stopwatch. Time trialling is generally a spring/summer sport. It is the simplest of competitive formats: a race against the clock, with riders starting a minute apart. It’s known as the ‘race of truth’ because there’s nowhere to hide, no one to draft behind; just you and the bike and the thumping of your heart. Oh, and a clock ticking…

Most events are held over a fixed distance, of 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles. There are also fixed time events such as the 12/24 hours – with the objective being to ride the furthest you can. Courses are on public roads and are either ‘out and back’, using a roundabout to turn halfway, or circuits with a consecutive left turn. It is usually possible to ride time trial or road bikes in KCA open events.

Pre-entries only through the CTT (www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk). There are no on the day entries. Entries normally close at least one week before the race and start sheets will be emailed to entrants and posted on the CTT website.
